Sri Lanka Gears for Diwali Celebrations- A Festival of Light, Hope and Purity

The month of October marks one of the biggest celebrations in the annual calendar. Diwali is a religious festival celebrated by the Hindu, Jains, and Sikhs communities around the world. This five-day-long extravagant celebration is a festivity of light, hope, and goodness with people all overseeing the lighting up their houses and streets with clay lamps and lanterns.

The festival is also associated with the Hindu mythology of Ramayana where jubilant villagers were said to illuminate an entire village with lights and decorations after hearing of Rama’s win. Tamils of Sri Lanka are often seen commemorating this auspicious day with oil lamps, decorations, and a host of sweet items like Jalebi, and Gulab Jamun to gorge on. A joyous festivity like Diwali is also best celebrated at a hotel like Araliya Red which is close to a host of places to visit in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka under the cool breeze of October.
