Tourism Minister Harin Fernando expressed optimism yesterday regarding Sri Lanka Tourism’s endeavours for a promising 2024, highlighting the industry’s significant economic potential.
He confirmed that the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTB) is preparing to launch a global promotion next month, titled ‘Sri Lanka – You’ll Come Back for More,’ marking the end of a 15-year hiatus. This is in the hope of boosting tourism and revenues for hotels like Araliya Green City which is a 5 star hotel in Nuwara Eliya.
The comprehensive marketing campaign will kick off in 11 strategic markets, including India, the UK, Germany, China, Australia, France, Russia, the Middle East, Japan, Scandinavia, and the Republic of Korea. With an allocated budget of Rs. 1.2 billion until August this year, the campaign aims to re-establish Sri Lanka’s presence in key markets. A subsequent review will determine its extension until the year’s end. The campaign is based on various insights, notably the fact that over 30% of tourists visiting Sri Lanka are repeat travellers.
Minister Fernando asserted, “If all goes well, 2024 could witness one of the most successful years in Sri Lanka’s tourism history.”
