Sri Lanka promoting MICE tourism to meet 12-pct of 2023 target – Capturing key markets during an economic upturn

Although Sri Lanka has been taking hits to the tourism industry like everyone else – there is evidence that visitors are starting to come back to the island jewel. To this end, Sri Lanka has been promoting MICE (Meetings, Incentive, Conventions, and Exhibitions) activities for 2023, aiming to fill 12% of the 1.55 million tourists targeted. Along with India (whose tourist numbers account for 75% of total visitors), the target continents include Europe, the Middle East, and the rest of South Asia respectively.

In response to this, several officials and MICE representatives from these countries are geared up to organize events and have expressed opinions about the potential clientele, speaking of the need for direct flights for luxury patrons. Some areas are already receiving promotions for tourist packages, and this could very well include Unawatuna hotels, an area where there are plenty of activities and sights for luxury patrons, such as those provided by properties such as Araliya Hotel Resort & Spa.
