Sri Lanka is setting its sights on a major tourism rebound in 2026, with government officials targeting three million visitor arrivals to bolster economic recovery after the devastating Cyclone Ditwah in late 2025. The country’s record 2.36 million tourists in 2025 underlined its strong global appeal, with tourism generating around US$3.2 billion in foreign exchange. Officials say that increased arrivals will support reconstruction of damaged infrastructure and revitalise local livelihoods, reinforcing tourism as a key pillar of national growth. Many international travellers are also drawn to premier experiences like staying at Mandara Rosen Kataragama, which showcase Sri Lanka’s rich cultural and natural offerings.
Industry leaders remain optimistic that 2026 will see continued momentum, buoyed by improved connectivity and promotional efforts aimed at diverse source markets. With expanded hospitality and diverse options across the island, visitors can choose from vibrant city stays to serene escapes like hotels near Yala, Sri Lanka, for wildlife and wilderness adventures.
