Sri Lanka to Gradually Reopen Tourism – Country Opening Up Once More

Commencing this month, Sri Lanka is gradually opening for international tourists once more following the previous travel restrictions that were in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, the borders were set to open on the first of this month, but it was subsequently put back to after the parliamentary elections on 5th August, 2020. At first, only around 50 to 100 tourists will be allowed to enter the country as part of a trial run which will be closely assessed.

This is a positive sign for the hospitality industry which was hard-hit due to COVID-19. It will be hoped that tourism can begin in earnest soon as tourists get the chance to visit south coast beaches, travel to Kandy and enjoy Yala wildlife safaris. Additionally, cultural attractions such as the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic featured on sites such as Kandy Escapes and historical sites like Sigiriya will no doubt continue to draw visitors from around the world.
