Arrivals Pick Up After April Bombings
Showing positive signs of improvement, tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka have begun to pick up; this is following the tragic Easter bombings that rocked the country this April which led to a sharp decline in visitor numbers. In an assessment made by the Tourism Ministry, this August, arrivals for July stood at 115,701 which was a significant increase over June when numbers dropped to 63,072. As per these sources, the main market in terms of arrivals was India.
It will be hoped that arrivals will continue to see an upward trend as the year draws to a close which normally heralds the peak tourist season. Sri Lanka still offers a wealth of destinations to visit along with accommodation options; be it staying at a Bentota hotel on the south coast such as Avani Bentota Resort or a colonial-style bungalow in the hills of Kandy there is much for travellers to experience here.
