A resilient island shines again on the global travel map

Sri Lanka is preparing for a remarkable tourism rebound, with Asia specialists reporting record-high bookings for the island nation. Edelweiss is set to strengthen this growth when its two new non-stop Zurich–Colombo flights launch on October 28, 2025, operating every Tuesday and Friday. Unlike past triangular routes via Malé, these direct connections are already proving popular with European travellers.

After years of setbacks—from the 2019 attacks to the pandemic and economic struggles—the country’s tourism is regaining momentum. Industry leaders note that booking figures for 2025 are projected to surpass pre-pandemic records, with demand for cultural tours, Ayurveda retreats, and family-friendly stays on the rise.

Sri Lanka’s diversity remains its strongest draw, from ancient temples and lush tea country to national parks and golden beaches. Travellers seeking authentic yet comfortable stays may look to 4 star hotels in Kandy, Sri Lanka, such as the well-known Kandy Myst by Cinnamon, blending cultural charm with modern comfort.

With stability returning, tourism is once again driving foreign revenue while offering visitors a uniquely rich and genuine experience.
