Sri Lanka Tourism Unveils Plans – Setting tones and a goal for the Future

After a 16-year hiatus, Sri Lanka has initiated a new global tourism campaign titled “You’ll Come Back For More.” Developed by Ogilvy, the campaign aims to highlight the country’s restored stability and readiness to welcome tourists. The government encourages private sector involvement in attracting tourists, emphasizing its role in creating a conducive environment for tourism. With insights revealing that over 30% of tourists return, the campaign will roll out in stages, starting with the promotion of Sri Lanka’s stability and readiness until February, followed by expansions targeting key markets.

Sri Lanka sets modest goals of 1.5 million tourist arrivals for the current year, having already welcomed 1.3 million by November. The target for the upcoming year is 2.5 million tourists. To achieve these objectives, the government is offering free tourist visas until March for visitors from seven countries. Although expected to benefit through international and Sri Lanka Domestic flights, with brands such as Cinnamon Air leading the way, these initiatives come amid economic challenges and anti-government protests, which led to disruptions in the tourism industry.
