Sri Lanka Tourism Utilises Digital Technologies – Tourism Investments Also Surge

Sri Lanka Tourism has adopted new initiatives in terms of incorporating digital technologies to promote the island and enhance visitor experiences. Examples include its live streaming ‘Couch Safari’ that gave visitors a chance to virtually explore national parks like Yala. A Sri Lanka Tourism mobile travel app is also being developed with various features such as information on less well-known sites and a customer experience management system.

To ensure traveller safety, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority offers accommodation providers that adopt stringent safety and health protocols with a “Safe & Secure” certificate too. This includes hotels in Kandy, Sri Lanka, where properties such as Earl’s Regent Kandy have achieved this certification so guests can enjoy safe stays. Against this backdrop, the tourism industry received a further boost; as reported on the Daily FT website on 10th August 2021, the island has attracted more than $950 million in new investments (March 2020 to June 2021) to revitalise the tourism sector which bodes well for the future.
