Sri Lankan Airlines would resume flights to the stunning Melbourne city from October, as stated by the Foreign Affairs Minister, Ravi Karunanayake on July 20th, 2017. It was announced following a meeting with the Australian Foreign Affairs Minister, Julie Bishop. Bishop revealed that an estimated 170,000 Sri Lankans now reside in Australia, with 30,000 of them being students from the island. The first flight will depart the island on October 29th, 2017, making it the first and only airline operating direct flight services from Sri Lanka to Australia. The direct flight services will add to the growth of the tourism sector and in Colombo, city hotel providers will reap the benefits, especially properties such as Colombo Courtyard. The services will be carried out in the A330-330 aircraft, reaching the city in approximately 10 hours.
