The Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) and The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL) have been increasing efforts to boost the country’s tourism industry and bring in much-needed foreign exchange as well. This was highlighted on the Daily FT news website on 17th June 2022 which quoted M. Shanthikumar, the THASL President; he went on to say that if decision-makers understood how the industry operated as well as its value and potential, it would have a “great potential for a return”.
The Daily FT also revealed that SLAITO and THASL senior members had met with fellow senior members and heads of various missions in the country; these included those from the UK, the EU, France, Germany, India, Australia and Russia to ask for their support to change or soften any strong advisories against travel to Sri Lanka. A great place for holidays once more, the island nation has reopened its international borders with travellers getting the chance to enjoy everything from the coast to the hills; the latter is home to properties like Araliya Green Hills that offer safe accommodation as well as easy access to the best places to visit in Nuwara Eliya, a popular destination in the mountains.
