On 19th September 2023, two airlines, namely SriLankan and Emirates, announced that they had launched a reciprocal interline agreement. This move was made to enhance connectivity for passengers planning to travel on these airlines with the chance to access more cities around the world with a single ticket and convenient baggage transfers. With the new partnership in place, those flying on Emirates can now access 15 regional destinations that are served by SriLankan Airlines via Colombo; amongst these are Gan Island (Maldives), Madurai and Tiruchirapally in India, Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, and Bangkok.
Such initiatives will no doubt help boost tourism to the island nation as well which is not just popular for its beaches, but mountain getaways too at Kandy hotels in Sri Lanka; these include properties like Amaya Hills Kandy where travellers can experience natural beauty and a rich culture. Additionally, as part of the interline agreement, passengers of SriLankan can now fly to Dubai and enjoy connections via Emirates to 15 destinations; these include cities in the Middle East, Russia, Africa, and the US, thereby further enhancing global travel and tourism.
