Stranded Malaysians Give Singapore Hoteliers a Much-Needed Uplift – Tourism in Times of a Pandemic

In March, Malaysia enforced a movement control order with the worldwide imposition of curfews, lockdowns and restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Despite the sudden enforcement stranding many Malaysians in Singapore, it was a silver lining for hotels near Mapletree Business city Singapore and other parts of the city-state.

The hotel industry was hard-hit just like the rest of the world. Malaysian workers and Malaysian tourists had to be rushed into temporary accommodations the likes of Park Hotel Alexandra until the restrictions were once again, lifted.  According to the executive director, Shin Hui Tan, a hoard of enquiries and bookings came immediately after the control order was enforced and hotels around Singapore have stepped up with hygienic conditions and social distancing in their rooms and hotels.
