With Malaysia having reopened its borders this year, the tourism industry has slowly but surely been getting back on track. As reported on The Star Online on 12th June 2022, industry players have emphasised that the country needs to put more focus on a segmented marketing strategy; this will help to attract more travellers as well as target niche markets. Amongst the examples put forth was to draw Scandinavian travellers who love nature by focusing on the nation’s natural attractions.
Interestingly, the rise in arrivals has led Malaysia to increase its initial target for 2022 and is now expecting to welcome around 4.5 million international visitors by the year’s end. This was highlighted on the New Straits Times website on 18th July 2022 which was commenting on the statements made by Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, the Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister.
