Surat Thani Experiences Remarkable Surge in International Tourists – Surpassing 1.5 Million Mark in a Single Year

International arrivals to the enchanting southern resort province, including luxury resorts in Koh Samui, have surged to surpass 1.5 million, marking an impressive 155% increase year-to-date, as announced by the provincial governor. In a statement issued on Monday, Governor Witchawut Jinto revealed that a total of 2.05 million visitors have graced the province since the commencement of this year. Amongst this influx, a noteworthy 1.5 million constitute foreign visitors, signifying a remarkable upswing of 155% when contrasted with the corresponding period last year.

Of particular significance is the revenue generated by these foreign visitors, which has ascended to 35.9 billion baht, an impressive 159% escalation year on year. The governor mentioned that the expenditure patterns of foreign visitors, including those staying at luxury resorts like Santiburi Koh Samui, predominantly encompass accommodations, culinary experiences, memorabilia, entertainment activities, and transportation services.

The province’s hospitality sector has exhibited vibrant vitality, with the hotel occupancy rate achieving an admirable 77% since the advent of this year, reflecting a notable 39% enhancement from the corresponding period last year. Each foreign visitor has been found to spend an average of 4.8 nights within the province, underscoring the compelling allure of the locale.
