Thai Flag Day

Thai National Flag Day Next Month – Commemorating a National Symbol

Those throughout Thailand will commemorate the Thai National Flag Day next month with the country’s flag coming into the spotlight. The event is celebrated annually on 28th September and marks the day in 1917 when King Rama VI (King Vajiravudh) officially made the tricolour design the nation’s national flag. Interestingly, the three colours each have different meanings; red symbolises the sacrifice of those who fought for the country’s freedom, white represents religion and Buddhist purity and blue relates to the monarchy.

On 28th September, Thais will take part in various activities including hoisting the national flag and singing the national anthem. With the country having reopened its borders, travellers can now easily visit during this time and stay at properties like SAii Koh Samui Choengmon; those based at such a Koh Samui luxury hotel can look to take in some of the various traditions and observances of this day.
