Thai Pongal Celebrated in Grand Scale in 2023 – The festival of harvest for Hindus
The most popular celebration among Hindus in Sri Lanka, the Thai Pongola festival was held on a grand scale across the island on the 15th of January 2023. The festival celebrates the fresh harvest and thanks the sun and mother nature for contributing to the harvest. The festival was carried on for several days in some parts of the island while commemorating the Tamil month also known as Thai.
Sri Lankans have not been able to celebrate any festivities together for a few years due to the pandemic disrupting all gatherings, hence the celebrations this year were more vibrant and colourful compared to the past few years.
