Thai Pongal in Trincomalee – Harvest Festival

Festivals and holidays are an essential part of the Sri Lankan culture. The first rice festival also known as Thai Pongal is a festival celebrated by Tamil and Hindu to give thanks to the sun god for the harvest.

Thai Pongal will be celebrated on the 14th of January 2018 and the Tamil community in Trincomalee is gearing up for this two-day festival. Thai Pongal has been celebrated for the past 1000 years and is one of the most admired Tamil holidays.
