Following the launch of the Phuket Sandbox Scheme in July 2021 and subsequent ‘sandbox’ initiatives, Thailand fully reopened its borders on 1st November 2021; those who had received a full dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and were arriving from a destination that was on a list of approved nations enjoyed quarantine-free entry. Travellers can now access some of the most popular local destinations including the capital, Bangkok; city hotel options such as the SHA Plus+ certified Pathumwan Princess Hotel provide guests with safe stays too.
Full vaccinated tourists from a non-approved country have the option of heading to 17 ‘Blue Zone’ provinces where unrestricted travel in designated areas is on offer; once they have completed seven days here, they are free to head to any other destination in Thailand. It will be hoped that such easing of restrictions will lead to more arrivals this year as tourism gets back on track.
