The 36th Annual Bali Kites Festival 2015 – Painting the skies

The Annual Bali Kites Festival recently celebrated its 36th year running, with hundreds gathering on the beach of Padanggalak from all over the island as well as internationally to contest in the kite competition and just enjoy the celebrations. The festival kicks off with the start of the windy season, and this year saw a spectacular array of audacious Balinese traditional kites as well as more demure designs. Kite flyers compete for cash prizes and titles such as “best design”, “longest flight” and “best launch”, and the competition gets fiercer every year. Travellers looking for Bali resorts to stay in while catching the Kite Festival will find the Anantara Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa a good option, situated just 35 minutes from the kite action at Padanggalak while being secluded enough to escape the crowds.
