The Dragon Canoe Festival of the Miao Ethnic People – A colourful display of culture

This is one of the most significant festivals celebrated by the Miao minority that lives by the Qingshui River located in the southwest of Guizhou Province. On the day before the actual festival, the Dragonhead, adorned in red stripes and two long horns is carried by the village elder in procession down the river.

When the day of the festival dawns, the villagers divide into 2 groups and take part in a rowing race dressed in a traditional outfit of a purple jacket, blue trousers, silver belts at the waist and golden bamboo hats. The canoe race is the most entertaining part of the festival and visitors staying at a Guiyang hotel close by, perhaps a centrally located property by Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas will not be far from the location for festivities.
