The Hungry Ghost Festival in Malaysia Next Month– In Reverence for the Departed

An annual event, the Hungry Ghost Festival is celebrated by Chinese communities in countries such as Malaysia. According to Taoist beliefs, the Gates of Hell are open during this time; this, in turn, allows the spirits of the dead to enter the world of the living in order to visit their ancestors or roam for food. The festival falls on the seventh lunar month and this year it will take place on 15th August.

Those wishing to witness some of the local celebrations and traditions in Malaysia and its capital can consider staying at properties of international hotel chains including the likes of Dorsett Hotels & Resorts. During this time you can see devotees engaged in religious activities and prayers as well as witness public food offerings and the burning of prayer money to appease the spirits of the dead.
