The Maldivian Ministry of Tourism released statistics of tourist arrivals in the first quarter of 2022 (until the 17th of March) in comparison to the previous year’s numbers for the same period. Accordingly, tourist arrivals to a Maldives all-inclusive hotel, resort or any other lodging stand at more than 359,000 in March while the number was only a mere 241,407 during the same period in 2021. Resorts like Finolhu Maldives are facing a rise in tourist arrivals, perhaps as the pandemic situation on a global level is reaching calmer waters.
With an expectation of a total of 1.6 million tourist arrivals for 2022, statistics have displayed an average arrival of 4,790 every day to this archipelagic island nation. However, according to local media, an evident drop in both Russian and Ukraine tourists is being faced by most hotels and resorts as both countries have halted direct flights to the Maldives.
