The Maldives Now Fully Open for Your Leisure – While Practising the ‘New Normal’

The Maldives is just one of the few countries that have completely reopened its borders for travellers over the world. Beginning from July 2020, the island nation started allowing entry for tourists in carefully measured strides. Initially, only hotels and resorts such as Finolhu Maldives were granted permission to reopen. By October, all the guesthouses at inhabited islands could resume their operations as well; however, the ones in the greater Male’ areas were only allowed to commence operations on 14th December. Due to this careful preparation incorporating necessary precautions, the islands were able to welcome over 500,000 guests last year, who went on to holiday at their preferred Maldives beach villa. The country was even able to record the highest number of daily arrivals in February 2021 after a long period.

While all tourists are encouraged to practise good hygiene and maintain social distancing, 2021 has kicked off with a great initiative of commencing Maldives Border Miles, which is the first nationwide loyalty programme for tourists in the world.
