Eid al-Fitr

The Maldives Observes Eid al-Fitr – A Joyous Conclusion to Ramadan

This April, the picturesque archipelago of Maldives witnessed a vibrant celebration as Muslims gathered to commemorate Eid al-Fitr, also known as Kuda Eid, marking the culmination of Ramadan. The three-day festivities, spanning from April 10th to April 12th, enveloped the nation in a spirit of joy and togetherness. Eid al-Fitr, the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal, heralds the end of Ramadan, a sacred period of fasting and prayer observed by Muslims worldwide with deep reverence and festive fervour.

During this time, Muslims across the country attended mosques where they engaged in communal prayers and listened to sermons imparting spiritual guidance and reflections on the significance of this day. Central to the ethos of Eid al-Fitr is the practice of Zakat al-Fitr, a form of charity where food is distributed to those in need, ensuring that all members of the community can partake in the festivities with dignity and abundance. Families and friends also came together to share grand meals and play traditional festive games as well. While many businesses closed during this holiday in the Maldives, all inclusive villa options on private island resorts like OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi remained a popular accommodation choice for travellers to enjoy Eid al-Fitr during their holiday.
