The Maldives Plans Vaccine Tourism – A New Dimension in Holiday Travel

In April this year, the Maldives announced that it was planning to launch a tourism initiative whereby travellers could visit the country not only for a holiday but to also obtain a COVID-19 vaccine. The programme which focuses on the “3 Vs” for tourists which are “Visit, Vaccinate, Vacation”, will only begin, however, only once all residents have been vaccinated. Near the end of June 2021, the country had fully vaccinated 70% of tourism industry workers, while local vaccine drives are ongoing as well.

The plan for what is being called vaccine tourism is amongst the strategies the government is looking to employ to help get the industry back on track. The signs are already promising and, in the Maldives, luxury resorts continue to attract tourists the world over; furthermore, such properties including The Residence Maldives Falhumaafushi by Cenizaro have also adopted strict health and hygiene measures that ensure guests a safe and secure stay too.
