The Maldives Sees Growth in the Summer Season – Tourist Arrivals Continue to Increase

The summer season in the Maldives has seen its tourism industry enjoy increased arrivals as travellers look to enjoy getaways with plenty of fun in the sun, sand, and surf. In August this year, this popular South Asian destination welcomed over 100,000 tourists for the eighth month in 2023 which bodes well for the rest of the year including the winter season too. Those who visited during summer had the chance to experience the perfect escape at a Maldives resort with private pool options at beach and overwater villas; these included properties like Dhigali Maldives which continues to cater to families and couples alike.

As of 19th August 2023, the country had welcomed 1,181,093 tourists which was an increase of 13.9% when compared with the same period last year. While India was the leading source market for tourism by the middle of the year, in August, Russia had reached the number one position. China held the third position followed by the United Kingdom and Germany respectively. With the Maldivian government having initiated its fifth tourism master plan as well, the country is looking to boost tourism further in the months to come.
