The Maldives taking steps to eliminate plastic waste in 2022 – For a waste-free future!

Plastic production in the world is on the rise each year. This means that hazardous waste will only increase as well. Most countries are looking into solutions for this and Maldives is one of them. For some time now, Maldives has been focused on completely stopping the use of plastic, especially on island resorts.

The local authorities have introduced a Plastic Drawdown, and this will help the country reduce the usage of plastic by 85% by the end of the decade. Travellers too can help by opting to stay at eco-friendly resorts. For those with the question of where to stay in Maldives, there are plenty of modern resorts the likes of Reethi Faru Resort that offer guests a chance to actively be part of restorative practices within the property. Coral conservation is a major part of the program here where artificial corals have been planted to create a place called “Reethi Garden” for corals salvaged from damage due to waste.
