The 3rd of October 2022 was marked as a special day in the Maldivian calendar, owing to its tourism industry which has been drawing in many travellers to the best family resort in the Maldives and other lodgings like OBLU SELECT Sangeli Maldives. Celebrating the occasion of 50 years of success in the country’s tourism industry, National Tourism Day was declared a public holiday by President Ibrahim Mohamed.
Tourism is the largest contributing industry to the Maldivian economy, employing 25,000 people and earning foreign exchange revenues. While the tourism industry in the Maldives was born in 1972, the country has since travelled a long way as a favourite holiday destination among many travellers in every corner of the world. While the 3rd of October may not remain a public holiday in the years to come, the significance that it holds to the people of the island nation is greater than any other celebratory event.
