The new year brings tourism back to Sri Lanka despite omicron fears – Focused on reaching tourism goals

Sri Lanka aims to regain revenue lost in the past 2 years from the tourist sector as soon as possible and for this, Sri Lanka Tourism Bureau has come up with a set of campaigns to push the destination upwards. All these efforts seem to be paying off as the country recorded around 30,000 tourist arrivals within the first 10 days of 2022 despite the surge in omicron cases.

Luxury hotels in Sri Lanka, the likes of Saman Villas were delighted to see a hike in occupancy at the beginning of this year. The shortages of fuel, increasing food prices and frequent power cuts have definitely posed a major challenge for the hotels on the island along with COVID-19. The industry however continues to pull through in order to make sure that livelihoods are protected and in hopes that tourism will rise again to what it was in 2018.
