The implementation of visa-free travel between Thailand and China has significantly boosted tourism in both countries, as evidenced by Trip.com Group data. On March 1st, the day visa-free travel commenced, Chinese tourist arrivals in Thailand surged by over 30% year-on-year. Conversely, travel bookings from Thai tourists to China tripled compared to 2019, reflecting a substantial rise in outbound travel.
Popular destinations among Thai tourists include major Chinese cities like Shanghai and Guangzhou, indicating a strong interest in exploring China’s urban landscapes. Capitalising on this trend, Trip.com Thailand launched a dedicated webpage featuring attractions, activities, and travel deals for visitors to China. This initiative has been met with positive response, with searches for China-related keywords on their website increasing more than threefold year-on-year and over 10% month-on-month. The visa-free policy appears to be mutually beneficial, stimulating both nations’ tourism sectors and promoting cultural exchange. This relationship between the two countries will foster excellent benefits for years to come, with the hospitality industry of both nations getting uplifted. Chaweng hotels in Thailand the likes of Avani Chaweng Samui Hotel & Beach Club are preparing for the heavy surge of Chinese tourists, and their counterparts in China will be doing the same.
