Visakha Bucha Day, also known as Vesak or Buddha Purnima, is the most significant celebration in the Buddhist calendar, observed nationwide in Thailand. Held on the full moon day of the sixth lunar month (Visakha month), it commemorates three defining moments in the life of the Buddha: his birth, his attainment of enlightenment after 35 years of spiritual pursuit, and his entrance into Nirvana 45 years later.
To celebrate, Visakha Bucha Day is a national holiday in the country. Devotees visit temples to engage in acts of devotion, meditation, and offerings. Colourful lantern processions, sermons reflecting on the Buddha’s teachings, and acts of charity and kindness characterize this day of remembrance. It serves as a time for reflection and gratitude for the Buddha’s enduring message of peace, compassion, and wisdom. If you’re vacationing in Thailand during this time at resorts in Khao Lak the likes of Avani+ Khao Lak Resort, make sure to join in on the celebrations to get a taste of a unique culture.
