In recent year, the number of tourist arrivals in the island of Sri Lanka has been steadily growing. The government has been taking various measures to secure this growth in the tourism industry and this seems to be working. Several marketing campaigns have been arranged in various target markets such as India, China, UK, US and many more. Furthermore, there are many star class resorts like AVANI Kalutara Resort a well-known Kalutara resort have come up and are continuing to come up in most areas of the country.
Tourist arrivals went up by 6.2% in May 2018 compared to figures noted down last year. According to recent statistics, visitors from India, UK, Australia and Japan grew this year. Although, there has been a fall in the number of visitors from China, Malaysia, Maldives and the Middle-east. Despite the drawbacks, Sri Lanka has big expectations for tourism in the future and is working towards making it all happen.
