This September, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau partnered with CNN to launch a special global TV advertising campaign in a bid to attract more tourists and rebuild the country’s image. The TV media campaign which will use the ‘So Sri Lanka’ branding will run for three months. It will feature prime-time commercial spots on CNN’s international channels in feeds covering Africa, Europe, Asia Pacific, South Asia, Middle East and Europe.
The island nation was rocked by terrorist bombings in Easter this year which had a severe impact on tourism. However, with improved security measures in place, many countries relaxed their travel advisories and tourist numbers are starting to pick up. Apart from diverse attractions tourists can also choose from various accommodation options be it staying at a Kalutara hotel the likes of Avani Kalutara Resort or a colonial-style bungalow in Kandy. Such media campaigns are expected to help assure tourists that it’s safe to travel to Sri Lanka once more.
