The Maldives continues to experience a surge in tourist arrivals, reaching a total of 832,169 as of June 6, 2023. While this reflects a robust growth rate of 14.7% compared to the same period last year, the nation is still 167,831 arrivals away from achieving the coveted milestone of 1 million annual visitors.
Although the month of June saw a slight decline in tourist arrivals, with a 2% decrease during the period from June 1 to 6, the overall upward trend remains promising. This year’s arrivals for the same period totalled 22,918, slightly lower than the 23,393 recorded in 2022.
The daily average of tourist arrivals currently stands at 5,475, with February witnessing the highest daily average of 6,354 arrivals and May experiencing the lowest at 3,902.
Furthermore, visitors to the Maldives are enjoying a longer average duration of stay at many a Maldives beach resort the likes of Milaidhoo Island Maldives, which currently sits at 7.8 days. January recorded the highest average duration at 8.1 days, highlighting the allure of the Maldives as a sought-after vacation destination.
As the Maldives continues to attract travellers with its unparalleled beauty and pristine landscapes, the tourism sector remains optimistic about achieving the milestone of 1 million annual tourist arrivals in the near future.
