Tourist Arrivals Increase in Sri Lanka – Positive Signs of Recovery

The tourism industry in Sri Lanka has cause to be cautiously optimistic to getting back on track as the arrivals of international travellers have shown a steady increase. The country reopened its borders in January this year and since then, the results have been positive. According to an online article last month by EconomyNext, in February 2021, there was a total of 3,366 arrivals which increased to 4,581 in March. Amongst the leading markets in terms of arrivals this year, has been Kazakhstan and Germany.

It will be hoped that these numbers will continue to rise and with both local and international vaccine rollouts underway, the signs bode well. From bungalows in Kandy to hotels in Negombo, Sri Lanka including properties such as Amagi Aria, the island nation also offers safe accommodation options at key destinations. While arriving travellers must initially stay at specific hotels, once they have finished the designated period within this secure bio bubble, they are given more freedom to travel as well.
