Tourist Arrivals to Maldives Increase by 7.8% in June – Promising Growth

The Sri Lankan newspaper the Daily Mirror recently reported that the Maldives welcomed over 85,222 travellers in June 2017 recording a 7.8 percent growth compared to records from 12 months ago. The records further revealed that the deficiency of arrivals from China was cushioned by the sudden growth of arrivals from Europe. Famous for island resorts and similar accommodation options at its different atolls including Dhaalu Atoll hotels such as the well known Niyama Private Islands Maldives, the country continues to be a popular holiday destination. Despite this, however, the Maldives encountered a decline of 9 percent from visitors from the Asia and Pacific regions and a decline of 12.5 percent from the Chinese market. However, the impressive 48.5 percent growth in arrivals from the Indian market with 6,919 tourists helped counterbalance the deficiency. The records also revealed that the archipelago experienced a growth of 13.8 percent from Europe that is considered as the second largest market of the Maldives.
