A steady comeback for Sri Lanka’s tourism, with British travellers leading the way
Sri Lanka’s tourism industry saw a significant rebound in 2025, driven by a surge of visitors from the United Kingdom. With UK travellers increasingly seeking cultural, nature-based, and immersive experiences, the island nation strengthened its position as a top long-haul destination.
By September 2025, UK arrivals reached over 160,000, making the market the second-largest after India. This growth reflected the success of strategic marketing campaigns, improved visa access, and enhanced travel infrastructure.
The revival also benefited local hospitality, with properties under Mandara Hotels & Resorts and other notable family resorts in Sri Lanka welcoming an increasing number of international guests. From heritage sites to pristine beaches and eco-tourism offerings, Sri Lanka’s diverse experiences contributed to the robust recovery and reinforced the country’s appeal among British visitors.
