Wat Chalong Fair 2016

Thailand’s annual Wat Chalong Fair was held in full ceremonial style on Feb 2016 at the Wat Chalong on Chaofa West Road. Probably named as the biggest of all temple fairs, the fair has a history running back to 1933 when it was first originated by local farmers who lived in and around the Wat Chalong. The farmers would gather together after their long period of hard work farming the fields and completing the harvest, to celebrate the harvest and holiday with a fun fair on the temple grounds. This tradition was later changed to hold the fair during the Chinese New Year to ensure that all Thais with a Chinese heritage would be able to participate in the grand fun fair. The colourful exiting fair is held for 7 consecutive days each year with massive crowds participating and having fun that makes it quite noisy with special aromatic scents experienced throughout. It is known to create claustrophobic conditions to some people who are sensitive to strong scents, high noise levels and heavy crowds. Those attending the fair were provided with plenty of Phuket luxury accommodation with hotels and resorts such as Point Yamu by COMO, Phuket, Thailand.
