Perang Tipat Bantal / Rice Cake Wars – bestowing prosperity with rice

Bali is full of spiritual traditions, but the Perang Tipat Bantal “Rice Cake Wars”, is one that stands out among the rest. The century old tradition is carried out by residents of the Kapal village. Kapal is located not far from Seminyak, better-known for surfing and resorts, like the Alila Seminyak Bali; villagers gather in front of the temple where blessings and prayers are bestowed in honour of the fourth month of the Balinese calendar; villagers then proceed towards the streets and divide into two groups with baskets of rice known as Tipat Bantal. Each group then flings rice packets at the other in a very unique and fun spectacle. The event signifies prosperity for the whole village and after the battle, the remains are spread across rice fields. Step out of your hotel in Seminyak and head over to Kapal on the 15th October to witness the rice cake wars.
