Sri Lanka Ranked Top Country for Travel in 2019 by Lonely Planet – Who takes the credit?

A pleasant surprise for Sri Lanka when it was ranked 2019’s top country for tourism, by Lonely Planet. Despite recent political turmoil in the country, this was a huge deal for the countries tourism industry and gave the island some hope. With smaller cities getting in the tourism scene such as Kalutara, resorts, hotels, and restaurants are cropping up, Anantara Kalutara Resort, one of them, all contributing to the market. However, the question is; who takes credit for this achievement?

With all the information and data, it was concluded that the informal sector accounts for 1 in 4 tourists who visit Sri Lanka. There is no doubt that at least more than half of the credit goes to the informal sector for promoting real and authentic Sri Lankan experiences.
