The Lunar Eclipse in Phuket, Thailand – Astronomical Phenomenon 2018

Students, residents and even those who were holidaying in places like Anantara Layan Phuket Resort were invited to join Phuket Rajabhat University’s junior astronomers to observe the total lunar eclipse on the 31st of January. During the transition, the Moon passed directly behind the earth and into its shadow causing the moon’s surface to become dark.

According to Nattapong Songumpai, a science lecturer at Phuket Rajabhat University, everyone gathered at the Saphan Hin, a public park located in close proximity to some of the finest Phuket luxury hotel options to observe this astronomical phenomenon and remained there until 10 pm. Adding to this Mr Nattapong stated that “it will be so long that we all have enough time to see it. The moon will begin to enter the Earth’s shadow at 7:51 pm. It will be entirely eclipsed at 8:29 pm and will finally be clear of the Earth’s shadow at 9:07 pm.”
