The Siddhartha Festival – Celebrating the Life of Buddha

The life of the holy one called Siddhartha began as an Indian prince who knew nought about the suffering that went on outside the palace walls. On a certain day, the prince managed to make his way out of the castle and beyond the walls and realized how much sorrow the world was filled with. In his attempt to make the world a better place, Prince Siddhartha then set out on his mission and eventually reached his enlightenment while meditating under a Bo tree.

The sacred temple known as the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya was built several millenniums ago by one of the most powerful and influential kings of India, King Ashoka. Mahabodhi Temple was constructed to commemorate the enlightenment of Lord Buddha. The festival of Siddhartha is celebrated here in this ancient temple. The festival reflects on the life of Lord Buddha. If you happen to stay in a Bodhgaya Hotel close by, perhaps the likes of Oaks Bodhgaya would make it easy for you to attend the festival as the area can get quite congested during this period.
