Sri Lanka’s Coast Conservation Department (CCD) recently took steps to remove 21 unauthorized constructions along the Mirissa beach. This was mainly due to the incident of attacking several tourists by a group of beach boys at the Water Creatures Guest Restaurant and Surf Bar. Preventing such unpleasant acts have become the need of the hour since Mirissa attracts many tourists annually and it is home to pristine beaches, exotic marine life and ideal accommodation options like Mandara Hotels & Resorts which offer some of the leading holiday resorts in Sri Lanka. The government of Sri Lanka has taken steps to suspend all the illegal constructions including houses and buildings along the Mirissa Beach. 24 Anti-Riot Squad personnel and more than 100 police officers were deployed to curb these illegal constructions which threaten the tourism industry of Sri Lanka.
