3% Rise in International Flights to the Maldives in 2023 – More Connections to Be Added This Year

Coinciding with the surge in travellers visiting the Maldives last year, the nation also saw an increase in international flights, as more tourists looked to enjoy holidays in this Indian Ocean nation. According to data released by the Maldives Monetary Authority, the country welcomed 15,883 international flights in 2023 which was a rise of 3% when compared with the same period in 2022. Amongst the reasons for this increase was the expansion and addition of routes linking the Maldives with cities around the world.

This included the commencement of flights between Male, the country’s capital, and the Indian city of Bangalore in October 2023; also of note was the launch of luxury airline Beond a month later, which provided connections to Dubai, Munich, Riyadh, and Zurich. The outlook for this year is also positive with Hong Kong relaunching flights to Male in January for the first time since the pandemic, while Beond is set to introduce Bangkok flights in July 2024. With added international flights expected in the Maldives, 5 star resorts on private islands including the likes of OZEN LIFE MAADHOO can expect more tourists this year looking to enjoy the best of this idyllic destination.
