As part of its efforts to get tourism back on track, Thailand launched the “Phuket Sandbox 7+7 Extension” on 16th August 2021; under this initiative, fully vaccinated travellers did not have to spend a mandatory 14 days in Phuket, but could instead head to other select destinations after the first seven nights; these included Koh Phangan, Koh Samui and Koh Tao in Surat Thani, Railay, Koh Phi Phi and Koh Ngai in Krabi and Khao Lak and Koh Yao in Phangnga.
This move has paved the way for these other destinations to enjoy more bookings too though under strict guidelines. For example, when transferring under the “7+7 Extension” programme, tourists are required to find accommodation at a SHA+ certified resort or hotel; Koh Phangan is home to such properties including Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas where guests are ensured safe stays too.
