The Maldives celebrated significant international acclaim at the World Travel Awards Asia, Oceania & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony 2026, held on World Tourism Day, September 27. Marking the return of the prestigious regional event to the island country for the first time in ten years, the nation secured five major regional honours.
The destination claimed four top titles: Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination 2026, Leading Dive Destination 2026, Leading Green Destination 2026, and Leading Honeymoon Destination 2026. Additionally, the Visit Maldives Corporation was honoured as the Indian Ocean’s Leading Tourist Board 2026.
These accolades reinforce the archipelago’s diverse appeal across natural island getaways and responsible luxury hospitality. Celebrated properties, including Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu, highlight the enduring global appeal of premier Maldives beach resorts across marine conservation, romantic escapes, and eco-friendly travel experiences. With more than 15 local hospitality brands recognised, the ceremony showcased the nation’s world-class standards to over 40 participating countries.
