The High Commission of the Maldives in Bangladesh hosted “The Great Tuna Gala – Flavours from the Sunny Side” on October 6 at Sheraton Dhaka, highlighting the nation’s sustainable marine practices and tourism potential. Attended by around 250 guests, including chief guest and Bangladesh Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat, the event showcased bilateral opportunities across trade and travel.
Maldives High Commissioner Shiuneen Rasheed emphasised the cultural and economic importance of traditional pole-and-line tuna fishing, an environmentally conscious method that underpins island life. A live culinary demonstration by Maldivian chef Maha Naseer featured regional seafood dishes, celebrating the unique cuisine found at destinations like Coco Bodu Hithi, alongside broader opportunities for luxury dining in Maldives resorts.
Beyond gastronomy, the gala aimed to expand Maldivian tuna exports in Bangladesh, strengthen business partnerships, and position the island nation as a preferred destination for Bangladeshi travellers as air connectivity continues to grow.
