A Cultural Zone in Maldives for Tourists: Opens New Opportunities for Tourism

November 1st marked a day of cultural importance in the Maldives when President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih declared a cultural and buffer zone around the iconic Friday Mosque. This was done in an effort to improve the chances of the ancient mosque being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, following consultations with a paper published by the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage.

The zone also provides a greater tourist attraction, with visitors being able to consume information about the surroundings more easily. The zone contains other cultural landmarks such as Medhu Ziyarai, an ancient burial ground echoing with tales of a bygone era, and Muleeaage, the grand residence of former sultans. Some of the best Maldives travel tips visitors can receive are to visit these incredible sites, even if they’re islands away at properties like The Residence Maldives Dhigurah.
