African Contemporary Dance Performance ‘Sankofa’ Comes to Gladstone

A fusion of West African movement and modern dance routines from Australia constitute the ‘Sankofa’. The elastic bodies of the Ghanaian international artists and afro-contemporary dancers mimic bird-like movements. In depicting the Adinkra, a symbol that is found in Ghanaian tradition, the movements imply the need to look to the past in order to make steady movements towards the future. It is not the first time that a performance of this kind will be held in Australia, as it was first performed in 2012. Presented by Asanti Dance Theatre and directed by Sidney Myer and Appiah Annan, the performance will take place on the 29th March 2016 at the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre. Consider staying at a well placed Gladstone hotel within easy reach of the centre such as Oaks Grand Gladstone, and you wouldn’t have to worry about being in your seats before 7.30 pm. The harmony between the music and lithe bodies will leave you transfixed!
